How I can mount a wall switch in the opposite sides of a partition?
New housing construction. I want to mount a switch on Kitchen / dining room to control the lights in the kitchen (just 14 / 3 romex 15 A, 3-way Decora-style rocker swiitch), and another switch to the opposite side of the wall place to control the switching of 20A convenience outlets in the living room (a single Romex 20A 20A, 3-way Decora style switch). The wall is a framed w 2X4 standard / media "drywall on both sides, the total width of 4 ½." Is there a box made specifically for this application, or they are shallow boxes made to fit this need "back to back '? prefer fingernails into plastic boxes, but go with the metal, if I need it. Also, if wire fill is an issue that could cause the output circuit 15 A LR and use 14 / 3 on that side too. Thanks in advance, Rick
If you want to switch back to back I recommend using a square metal box with a 4 1 / 2 inch single gang mud ring. There are boxes that have 4SQ mounting brackets beside them. They are easy use.
